Move towards a life path aligned with your core values, meaning, and purpose.
My therapy approach is person-centred, strength-based, and trauma-informed: you are the expert in your life and we will meet where you are at. We will work together at a pace and in a direction that feels right for you. As your capacity grows, I’ll work alongside you as challenging emotions, thoughts and feelings arise. You do not have to go through them alone.
Traditional talk therapies are not the only way to explore your experiences. I often use somatic and mindfulness-based practices, art, storytelling, journaling, metaphor and imagery to reach a deeper understanding. Together we will explore your experiences, thoughts, memories, and feelings holistically incorporating various theories, modalities, and practices (as you feel comfortable) to help restore and balance your nervous system, your internal and external resources, strengths, and connections to enable healing.
I work from a place of non-judgement and acceptance for who we are and why we do the things we do. We learn to cope with the world in certain ways because we had to do so, maybe early on as a child and throughout our lives to feel safe from threat or harm. Humans have an amazing capacity for resilience, strength, perseverance, and surviving! But there comes a time when some unconscious or conscious strategies and patterns (like anxiety, numbing, people pleasing, perfectionism, etc.) are no longer working – when they become disruptive, harmful, or painful – and it becomes time to create new ways of coping and engaging with yourself, within your relationships, and the world around you. I believe that everyone has the capacity to change unwanted thoughts, behaviours, and actions if given an opportunity to explore them in a safe and supportive environment. I believe in your ability to live the life you want to live and would be honoured to walk alongside you on your journey.
I draw upon the wisdom of a variety of theories and modalities to inform my therapeutic approach as we work to address your unique needs and interests.
These include:
· Acceptance and Commitment Therapy
· Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
· Somatic and mindfulness-based practices
Your path to healing and a better life may not be smooth, it may not be straight forward, and maybe not very clear or the easiest route. We can work together to find the little patches of light that can help to guide your way.
